Real Estate allows us to fundamentally change the life of every human being into the better. As the world urbanizes increasingly, the sector of construction and real estate experiences a real boom. In the last five years the number of start-ups in this area has increased by the factor of 7. For a good reason - there are tons of problems to solve in this sector.

Problems

The environmental impact of the construction industry ranges from waste, noise, land use to air and water pollution. In fact, the construction sector accounts for 33 % of the global greenhouse gas emissions and 52 % of the total waste in Germany. Moreover, it ranks extremely low regarding digital services and, consequently, lacks modern and user-centric solutions in times when we must jointly minimize waste, recycle material and protect ecological resources.

Our Mission
With our program „The Mission Construction“, we want you to develop holistic solutions that disrupt the entire sector. Together with our corporate partners along the construction value chain we give you the opportunity to discover, design and build innovative solutions with a long-term positive impact.
Our 3 month incubation program provides you with everything you need to turn your first ideas into your own start-up.

Planning the adventure

Every Mission starts with the identification of suiting partners for the selected project topic. Over the years, we have established a broad network of excellent corporate partners, from German Hidden Champions to DAX and international companies. Together with the selected partner, we define the project scope by pinpointing the most pressing issues of the represented industry in terms of sustainability.

By breaking down industries into value-chains, customer journey steps and touchpoints, we determine innovation fields for each project, where we see the potential for sustainable innovation.

Once the scope is set, we start with the recruiting.

Hiring and staffing the best teams

The common goal: to bring together the best experienced and young minds.

For each program, we look for early-stage start ups, entrepreneurial talents, makers, creators and innovators with different academic and professional backgrounds who want to make a positive impact on the planet. We take a holistic approach in our selection process. We pay close attention to academic as well as extracurricular achievements, but what counts the most, is the candidates motivation and mindset.

We look for open personalities who are willing to make a change with their ideas and skills. During the application process, the best candidates themselves can get to know each other on the Futury Ideation Platform to exchange ideas and look for team members for the program. We make sure the teams are interdisciplinary and diverse. We encourage our candidates to apply with their own ideas or develop one during the application process.

Once all teams are set, we kick off the program!

Let the adventure begin!

Futury welcomes the teams in Frankfurt with an intensive onboarding week full of methodological workshops, e.g., Design Thinking, User Research, as well as expert lectures to put them directly on the right track. Afterwards, they prepare their initial pitches for the first milestone event – the Kick-Off – where they present their innovative and sustainable ideas to our corporate partners and get to know them for the first time.

From then on, the teams start turning their ideas into reality. All project partners support the teams with their know-how, industry insights and best practices. Through regular exchanges with all project partners and on-sight visits, we ensure a co-creation approach. All teams are accompanied by Bain & Company, one of the world’s leading strategy consulting firms, which provides them with helpful advice, methods and tools. Futury gives access to any further expert needed: user research, prototyping, business modeling and testing specialists.

Furthermore, the Handelsblatt, as one of the initiators of The Mission, provides media coverage throughout the whole program on all of their channels. After three months of intensive work, the teams will present their prototypes and business models to all partners in the last milestone event - The Final Pitch. This could be the first step towards their own start-up or direct entry to one of the partners. How far our talents want to reach simply depends on their commitment.

How it all can continue...

The Mission doesn’t really end after three months.

Each team decides on their own whether and in what form to continue pursuing their ideas. For those teams who are willing to stay in touch with corporate partners beyond the three-month program, Futury, together with Founders Intelligence, offers an eight-week follow-on The Mission Accelerator Program to jointly set up a proof of concept and develop a go-to-market strategy.

Teams are free to choose any other accelerator program or continue developing their idea on their own. Moreover, upon program completion, all participants enter the Futury Alumni Network to stay in touch beyond The Mission.

Individual Application

Apply with your CV using the application form. Our recruiters will screen your application to see if you fulfill our formal requirements and program-specific qualifications (see the “Your Profile” section). At this point, you don’t have to have a team or an idea.

If you fulfill all our screening requirements, you will be invited to a first initial interview and a short personality test.

Initial Interview

To get to know you better, we will have an initial interview with you. Be prepared to be asked about your previous experience, motivation to join The Mission and become an entrepreneur, as well as your expectation from the program.  

If you pass this round, you will be admitted directly to the Futury Ideation Platform.

Futury Ideation Platform

The platform serves as a digital space to connect and create. Here, you will find like-minded people to found a team and brainstorm on ideas for the program.  Your main tasks on the platform will be:

- To dive deeper into the topic to get a better overview of the status quo of the industry
- To submit a program idea or join someone else’s idea
- To find your future team of co-founders and brainstorm on ideas together.
Futury coaches will regularly check in on you to ensure your ideation process is going in the right direction.

Why? Because should your idea make it to the program; your job will be to make it into reality!

Applicants will be admitted to the platform on a rolling basis – the sooner you apply, the more time you get to spend on the platform. Leverage this opportunity!

Digital Pitch

The final selection will be made based on a Digital Pitch. The best 10 ideas from the platform will make it into the Digital Pitch round. In the pitch, your team will present the idea you developed on the Futury Ideation Patform to Team Futury. We will choose the most innovative and sustainable 5 ideas for our program.

Our selection criteria include Innovativeness, Impact, Feasibility and Corporate Partner Fit. Soon after the Digital Pitch we will announce the five Mission Teams that have the chance to participate in the program.

Team Application


You are already a team of 2, 3 or 4 members and have a good idea for the program? Perfect!

It doesn't matter if you are already a well-rehearsed team or if you just got to know each other a few days ago. The Mission will get the most out of any team and will form your team into a real dream-team.

If there are only two of you, you can meet suitable co-founders during the application phase! So apply and become part of the Mission.

Initial Interview

In order to get to know you and your team better and to learn more about your motivation and expectations, we will have a short initial interview with you.

If you pass this round, you will be admitted directly to the Futury Ideation Platform.

Futury Ideation Platform

The platform serves as a digital space to connect and create. Is your team already full? Then just upload your idea and use the platform to get feedback on it. You are still looking for suiting team-members? Then use the platform to find them. Your main tasks on the platform will be:

- To dive deeper into the topic to get a better overview of the status quo of the industry
- To submit a program idea or join someone else’s idea
- To find your future team of co-founders and brainstorm on ideas together.

Your Futury coaches will regularly check in on you and your team to ensure your ideation process is going in the right direction.

Why? Because should your idea make it to the program; your job will be to make it into reality!

Digital Pitch

For both individual and team applications, these are our program-specific qualifications:
  • You are a motivated individual who wants to challenge the status quo with your ideas
  • You have your finger on the pulse of innovation and follow the latest digital trends 
  • You possess an entrepreneurial mindset and could think of creating your own start-up
  • You are an absolute team player and take responsibility for your actions
  • You care for the environment and want to impact the world with your ideas and skills
As each team will consist of 3-4 multidisciplinary talents, every background is welcome! In your team, you would usually find yourself in one of the following roles:
  • The Techie: Responsible for the front- and back-end, prototyping and testing
  • The Business All rounder: Responsible for the business model, clients, communication and finance
  • The Product Genius: Responsible for product design and development (e,g, UX, tools & features)
  • The Topic Matter Expert: In this case, people with a strong professional/academic background in the fields of Construction, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Sustainable Resource Management, etc.
Please be aware of our formal requirements: 
  • You are in your last Bachelor Semester or higher 
  • You speak fluent English 
  • You are available full-time for the program (and ideally beyond)
  • You are ready to relocate to Frankfurt for the period of the program
  • You possess a valid EU working permit (For international applicants: Either an EU/EEA Passport or a German Residency Card valid throughout the whole duration of the program. Please be aware that Futury does not sponsor visas)

Our talents and community's health remains our top priority as we work through the unknown of the coming months. We have developed a Hygiene Concept including such measures as FFP2 respiratory masks and on-premise rapid testing and react quickly to the new regulations from Hesse's state to enable collaborative work in a safe environment.

Terms and Conditions for the participation in The Mission

At 'The Mission', you will turn your own ideas into a business model and when building your own company, you have to decide on a legal form
– this is important to secure your rights to your product or service. Moreover, the registration of your company is the first building block of your future startup, committing to your work and company rules together with your co-founders.

Therefore, each team participating in The Mission has to establish its own legal entity to participate in the program. Either you are an already founded team, or we help you and your team set up a business entity before the program starts. We know that most of you have never started your own business. Don't let that frighten you - with our help and a little entrepreneurial spirit, you can do it.

Financial support during the program

You will receive financial support as a team on a monthly basis after issuing an invoice. Each participant gets EUR 1.000 per month. E.g., for a four-member team and the entire program, Futury provides financial support of EUR 12.000 + all program-related costs (e.g., prototyping, material, etc.).

Office space

Each of our The Mission programs takes place on-site in a beautiful co-working space in Frankfurt. WeWork provides you with everything you need for individual and collaborative working: team working spaces, meeting rooms, phone booths and cozy areas for in-between coffee breaks – make use of this unique environment.
Of course we take into account the COVID-19 regulations.

Insurance & Contract

All kinds of insurances are to be taken care of by yourself.
Futury will set up a coopration agreement with the legal entity of your team. In this contract, all the things listed here are once again described in detail. You will not be employed at Futury - you will be a co-founder of your own company.

Vacation & Commitment

Holidays and days off are generally allowed as long as they do not jeopardize the team results – hence, they are to be aligned within the team. Overall, we strongly discourage you from being absent for more than 3 days since our program has much to offer at a very tight schedule. The development of your idea should be the primary activity that you perform during the program – we strongly discourage you to take up additional work. Any other activity (i.e., university project or thesis, part-time or freelance jobs) must openly be communicated with Team Futury and your team before the start of The Mission.

Working hours

Each The Mission program is full-time and on-site. Entrepreneurship is not a 9-to-5 job and we expect full commitment from every team. However, you and your team can independently decide on the working hours. The program is filled with multiple mandatory workshops as well as optional events. Open communication and honesty belong to the mutual respect that is a strong part of our work ethos.

Rights to your idea

All project results ("findings, models, know-how, inventions, work results protected by copyright, protected and unprotected computer programs together with source code as well as documentation, reports, and documents") belong to the same extent to your team, Futury, and the program partners. This means that all three parties can "publish, reproduce, distribute or otherwise exploit or use the project results in any form and to any extent". Should your team decide to spin-off with your idea after 'The Mission', you have the right to keep whatever has been developed during the program and use it for building your startup. Futury will not take any company shares from you if you decide to continue working on your solution after the program.

How do teams come together?

Once on the platform, you will have the task of either submitting your own idea or requesting to join an existing idea in the platform. The team is considered complete once it has 3 or 4 applicants on it. We strongly recommend the teams to pay attention to the diversity factor in the team. Without diversity, there will be no innovation!

Do I have to be in Frankfurt for the 3-Month Accelerator Program?

Absolutely yes. The program takes place in Frankfurt, all participants must relocate for the duration of the program.

What happens to my idea after the program?

Your idea belongs to you and your team. You decide together whether you want to continue developing it and how. Towards the end of the program, you will consult with your coaches and the partners on the perspectives of your idea and the options for continuation. Should at least one of the corporate partners of the program be interested in continuing working with your team in an environment similar to The Mission after the Final Pitch, our partners from Founders Intelligence will set up and facilitate an 8-week The Mission Accelerator Program to continue working on your idea. Please note that the setup of the Accelerator is not possible without support from a corporate partner. You are absolutely free to apply for any other accelerator/incubator.

What could a program idea look like?

A program idea could be an innovative concept, a digital or physical product or a service that addresses the programs’ problem statement and has a positive social, economic and environmental impact.

What does a typical working day in The Mission look like?

In The Mission, there is no such thing as a typical working day. You are your own boss and decide what exactly you will be working on each given day. Futury will guide you with weekly focus topics (User Research Week, Business Model Week, etc.) so you don’t get too overwhelmed with the workload. But trust us, no day will be like the one before!
